Erza Scarlet (エルザ・スカーレット Eruza Sukāretto?) is a 19-year-old swordswoman with prominent red hair. While a slave of the Tower of Heaven, Erza befriends other slaves her age, including Jellal Fernandez. Erza launches a mass breakout to save Jellal from being tortured and loses an eye in the process, but an elderly Fairy Tail member who cares for her comes to her rescue, and pays the price with his death. However, Jellal is brainwashed into serving Zeref and betrays her to continue the tower’s construction.
