Kairi is the friend of both Sora and Riku. They all lived together at the Destiny Islands, with Sora and Riku always competing for her attention. She is not a native to their island and cannot remember her original home. In the Ansem Reports, it is explained that Kairi originally came from Hollow Bastion and had been sent away by Ansem. In the beginning of Kingdom Hearts, Sora entered their secret cave and drew himself giving Kairi a Paupu fruit on the cave wall. Paupu fruits are said to join the hearts of any two people who share it by eating it together forever.
